St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (July 31, 2026) Ocean Point Terminals welcomed 15 students to its annual summer internship program, continuing its commitment to developing the next generation of Virgin Islands professionals through meaningful hands-on work experiences.

Since the company’s inception, Ocean Point has partnered with the Virgin Islands Department of Labor (DOL) to provide internship opportunities through the agency’s Labor Investing for Tomorrow (LIFT) and Summer Youth Work Experience Program (SYWEP). The company also maintains a year-round partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands’ Process Technology program, offering students valuable industry exposure and practical experience.

This year marked a new milestone for the company’s internship program, as Ocean Point partnered for the first time with the Virgin Islands Legislature’s summer internship initiative to provide an engineering student with a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field.

“At Ocean Point Terminals, we are committed to creating opportunities that allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom while gaining exposure to potential career paths within our industry,” said Human Resources Manager Brian Dore. During a recent meet-and-greet, tour and training event for the interns, Dore emphasized the importance of providing students with meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that help bridge the gap between education and the workplace.  “Our goal is to provide a well-rounded experience that helps interns build confidence, develop practical skills, and make informed decisions about their professional futures.”

Dore also noted that the internship program often introduces students to career opportunities they may not have previously considered.

“Our summer internship program provides these students with insight into areas they may not have been aware of and allows them to explore the many opportunities that exist within our industry and this facility,” he added.

The 2026 intern group includes students ranging from high school juniors to recent college graduates. Their academic and career interests span a wide range of disciplines, including Finance, Automotive Technology, Information Technology, Maintenance, Operations and Engineering.

As part of the onboarding process, all 15 interns completed Site Awareness and Safety Essentials training courses. The Safety Essentials training serves as an industry benchmark, covering essential safety rules, regulations, and principles within the petroleum sector. Depending on their department assignments, interns also completed additional compliance and safety training requirements before beginning their work assignments.

Interns began their assignments at different times throughout the summer, with some starting in June and others joining in July based on the requirements of their respective programs. To accommodate these varying schedules, internship assignments range from five to eight weeks in duration. Throughout their time at Ocean Point Terminals, students are assigned to departments that align with their interests, educational backgrounds, or career aspirations. In addition to their daily responsibilities, the interns complete projects and assignments designed to deepen their understanding of departmental functions and business operations.

This summer, Ocean Point’s interns are supporting several areas across the organization, including Auto Garage, Capital Projects, Finance, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE), Human Resources and Training, Information Technology (IT), Maintenance Craft, Maintenance Engineering, Marine, Supply Chain and Warehouse, Security, and Terminal Operations.

As a culminating component of the internship program, all interns are required to deliver a final presentation to their department, highlighting key projects, lessons learned, and insights gained throughout their experience. The presentations provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the department they supported, reflect on their professional growth, and share how the internship has influenced their educational and career goals. The exercise also helps interns strengthen their communication and presentation skills while showcasing the value of their contributions to the organization.

Ocean Point Terminals remains dedicated to investing in the growth and development of young Virgin Islanders and recognizes the employees who serve as mentors throughout the internship program. “Thank you to the departments and team members who have invested their time, expertise, and encouragement to these students,” Dore said. “Your guidance has helped create a meaningful and impactful experience that reflects Ocean Point’s ongoing commitment to developing local talent and fostering excellence within our community.”
